Young People’s Sexual Health Services Engagement

Understanding how to improve young people’s engagement with sexual health services.

four people standing and working together

Healthy Dialogues is working with Merton Council to understand how young people access and experience sexual health services across the borough.

The project will gather feedback from young people aged 13–24 to help improve local services, information and support. The insights will help the council make sure services are accessible, relevant and responsive to the needs of young people in Merton.

What the project will explore

Through this engagement work, we will explore young people’s awareness, views and experiences of:

  • local sexual health services
  • the C-Card condom distribution scheme
  • the chlamydia screening programme
  • how young people prefer to receive sexual health information and support

We will also gather ideas about the design of a new young people’s sexual health hub clinic and a new online sexual health information resource.

How we will engage with young people

We will work with local organisations and youth groups to reach a diverse range of young people across Merton.

Engagement activities may include:

  • interactive workshops and discussions
  • surveys and quick feedback activities
  • sessions with youth groups and community organisations
  • conversations with professionals who support young people

We aim to create a safe and inclusive environment where young people feel comfortable sharing their views and experiences.

Why this work matters

Young people’s feedback is essential for shaping services that work for them.

The findings from this project will help Merton Council to:

  • improve access to sexual health services
  • strengthen sexual health education and information
  • design services that are youth-friendly and easy to access
  • ensure support reaches the young people who need it most

By listening to young people directly, the council and its partners can continue developing services that support the health and wellbeing of young people across Merton.
