RSPH Level 3 Certificate in Social Prescribing

This online interactive programme is designed for practitioners who want to strengthen their knowledge, skills and practical confidence in delivering high-quality social prescribing and personalised care.

Learners will gain a strong understanding of the social prescribing pathway, behaviour change, health inequalities, and effective personalised care consultations, with practical application throughout.

By completing this programme, learners will:

  • Achieve a nationally recognised Royal Society of Public Health Level 3 Certificate in Social Prescribing
  • Develop the practical skills to support individuals, groups and communities
  • Strengthen their confidence in delivering personalised care
  • Understand the role of non-clinical, community-based approaches to health and wellbeing
  • Learn current research and best practice in social prescribing
  • Build skills in motivational interviewing, care planning and referral support

Course overview

Unit 1: The Principles and Concepts of Social Prescribing – Tuesday 6th October 2026

Explore what social prescribing is, why it matters, and how it improves health and wellbeing. Understand the social prescribing pathway, key professional roles, and how to evaluate impact.

Unit 2: The Wider Determinants of Health and Health Inequality – Tuesday 20th October 2026

Examine the social, economic, environmental and cultural factors that influence health, and explore how social prescribing can help address inequality at individual and community level.

Unit 3: Theories of Behaviour Change and Motivational Techniques – Tuesday 3rd November 2026

Learn key behaviour change models and techniques, including motivational interviewing, to support sustainable health and wellbeing improvements.

Unit 4: Conducting Personalised Care Consultations – Tuesday 17th November 2026

Develop practical consultation skills, identify priorities, create SMART action plans, review progress, and refer clients to appropriate local services.

Time commitment

In addition to the teaching days, learners should plan for independent study and assessment work.

  • Recommended commitment: approximately 3 days of learning per unit
  • Total suggested learning time: 12 days

This includes attending teaching sessions, engaging with learning materials, and completing assignments and portfolio work.

This course is practical, engaging and interactive, with learning activities such as:
