A Whole School Approach to Mental Health – Evaluation
We are carrying out a mixed-method evaluation of a whole-school approach to mental health across 16 London secondary schools. Funded by the Mayor of London and the GLA, this work examines how the programme, delivered by the Anna Freud Centre, impacts students, staff, and school communities.
How we work
Our evaluation captures both the process and the impact of the programme. We combine:
-
Surveys and school data to measure changes in wellbeing, engagement, and school culture
-
Interviews and focus groups with students, staff, and parents to gather detailed, lived experiences
-
Tailored analysis to understand what works, for whom, and in which school contexts
This approach ensures we provide rigorous, actionable insights that schools and policymakers can use to improve and sustain mental health support.
Our goals
Through this evaluation, we aim to:
-
Identify how interventions are implemented and adapted in different schools
-
Explore the effects on school culture, teaching, and pastoral support
-
Highlight lessons for sustainable, long-term impact across London
Sharing learning
Our findings will be translated into practical resources, summaries, and guidance for schools and local authorities, ensuring insights are accessible and can inform ongoing practice.
